In einer Berliner Tageszeitung erschien kurz nach Veröffentlichung dieser Übersetzung eine sehr euphorische Rezension: Der Rezensent verwies einerseits auf die Tatsache, dass dies die erste "weibliche" Übersetzung des Werkes überhaupt sei - interessant deshalb, weil die historischen Umstände der Entstehung der "Odyssee" keinesfalls als frauenfreundlich zu bezeichnen sind - und dass die Übersetzung versuche, die Atmosphäre des Originals in der englischen Sprache, und noch dazu im Versmaß Shakepeares, wiederzugeben.Meines Erachtens kommt es bei jeder Übersetzung darauf an, so nahe wie möglich die Aussageintentionen des Autors in der Zielsprache wiederzugeben. Dass dies bei einer "Odyssee"-Übersetzung auch im originalen Hexamter geschehen muss, ist nicht notwendig; es stört sogar. Wendungen und Ausdrucksweisen zu finden, die dem Original so nahe wie möglich kommen und dabei insbesondere als Literatur auch verständlich sind, ist das hehre Ziel des Übersetzens. Gelungene Beispiele aus der jüngeren Zeit sind die deutschen Übertragungen von Steinmann, Lempp und Martin.Für mich als Klassichem Philologen und Homerfreund daher ein Muss, mir diese besondere Übertragung anzuschaffen. Neben einer vorzüglichen Einleitung in die homerische Welt, ihre Sprache und ihr Denken, überzeugt die Übersetzerin gerade dadurch, dass sie trotz der metrischen "Enge" gegenüber dem griechischen Original eine ansprechende, detailgenaue und inspririedende Übersetzung (Sprachvergleich mit dem Deutscchen) geschrieben hat. Lesenswert für alle, die nicht nur Homers Werke, sondern auch die Beschäftigung mit Sprache lieben!
Ein unglaublich gutes Buch welches in jede Kollektion gehört, jedoch bevorzuge ich meine Bücher gepflegt und gerade-geschnittene Seiten5 Sterne wird er erst dann geben, wenn das Buch in annehmbaren Zustand zu mir kommt!
