Overall enjoyable and look forward to the next book.However I did have a few issues:Spoilers:I thought he was separated from his companions for way way to long.Also I thought he was going to save the worlds he came across, but instead he is an assassin going to cut the head off the beast...so a little different direction than I thought.Without saving those worlds though I would think it would be a pyrrhic victory.I will be buying the next book.
So, starting off with the good: this is a meaty book and an excellent continuation of the story. I have no doubts about the five stars I'm giving it.Now, for the bad...while this books is nice and meaty, there is some gristle, and yes, I am extending this metaphor a bit far. On occasion, the book is a slight slog to get through, and it seems like the author knows this because those scenes tend to turn into "suddenly, sex!". These scenes tend to be about backstory for characters or about the setting, then sex, then contemplation about the information, which, not a bad way of going through it, it does seem a bit cumbersome at times. Fight scenes are good, sex scenes are good, and no part of it was actually bad. There were some editing errors that were annoying, but those were fairly few and far between, usually an awkward sentence, and there was a paragraph where names where switched around improperly, but those were very minor, especially for an almost 800 page book.SPOILER ALERT....Still curious about those kids though. I was definitely expecting some child-broth being involved or something...
Wow just wow. This book has all the ups and downs you would want in an epic tail. The Main does some cringe worth thing that make you think geez how could you then does something to make you laugh and cheer. A couple of his companions are fleshed out better allowing us to understand their issues also. Watching the slow growth of this bunch of individuals is a wonderful process I wish the next was out already. Both books in this series are well worth the read
This was much much better than the 1st book. A lot of character development in this one. Fair warning though that the length ,while enjoyable, results on some slower paced part in the story but otherwise wow, I think Mike has found a great formula for this series. I enjoyed it throught the end, slower paced parts or not. I hope we don't have to wait a year for the next one but aslo hoping for the same ballpark in length (haha, so contradictory, I know lol)Honestly I am not sure I trust Noah at all with the next realm but he came through in this one and really grew from his trials lol. I do hope they group stay together to the end though.
Minor spoilers near end of review:Good sequel to The Five Trials. Really look forward to more books in this series.Spoilers Below:....The only issue that I had was that the twist with Victor seemed far to predictable. I saw it coming from the time that Neveah told Noah that she needed to kill Victor. After that and knowing the nature of Ghogiel, it was fairly easy to see coming. Other than that was really good and looking forward to more.
