So geschehen bei „Autoboyography“ von Christina Lauren, dem Pseudonym des Autoren-Duos Christina Hobbs und Lauren Billings. Sie schreiben mit so viel Herz und Humor, dass ich mich selbst ganz verliebt fühlte. „Autoboyography“ ist eine sehr klassische Liebesgeschichte: Ein Junge trifft einen anderen Jungen, er verliebt sich und die Frage steht im Raum, ob sich der andere Junge auch in ihn verliebt. Die Handlung an sich bietet wenig Überraschungen, dennoch fließen Aspekte hinein, die sie besonders machen.Tanner ist bisexuell und lebt mit seiner Familie in Utah, dem Bundesstaat der USA, der als Zentrum des Mormonismus bekannt ist. Für alle, die es nicht wissen (ich wusste es nicht), Mormonen leben nach strengen Verhaltensregeln, so ist die Keuschheit bis zur Ehe ein wichtiger Grundsatz. Auch den Konsum von Alkohol, Kaffee, Tee und Zigaretten lehnen sie kategorisch ab. Man kann sich also gut zusammenreimen, dass Atheisten und bisexuelle Teenager in dieser Gemeinschaft eher die Außenseiter sind. Ungünstig also, dass sich Tanner ausgerechnet in seinen Mentor Sebastian, den Sohn des Mormonischen Bischofs, verliebt.Der besondere Reiz der Geschichte lag für mich darin, alle Gedanken und Gefühle aus erster Hand von Tanner zu erfahren. Denn er soll für einen Kurs an seiner Schule ein Buch schreiben – innerhalb von vier Monaten. Doch über was soll man schreiben, wenn man an nichts anderes denken kann, als diesen einen Menschen? Natürlich, man schreibt über eben diese Gefühle und Gedanken und einfach über alles, was in diesen vier Monaten geschieht. „Autoboyography“ liest sich daher wie ein Tagebuch, ungefiltert und berührend und mitreißend. Als Leser ist man mit Kopf und Herz vollkommen dabei, ich litt mit Tanner, hoffte mit Tanner und spürte seine Aufregung, Nervosität und Kraft.Denn über die verfügt er, nicht zuletzt, weil er aus einem Elternhaus kommt, in dem er zu jeder Zeit unterstützt wird. Sie akzeptieren ihn wie er ist und bestärken ihn mit angenehmer Selbstverständlichkeit in seiner Bisexualität.Tanner ist in seiner Hals-über-Kopf Verliebtheit ein unglaublich sympathischer und liebenswerter Charakter. Er ist niemand, der seinen Platz in der Welt noch finden muss, sondern jemand, der ihn schon gefunden hat. Sebastian hingegen hat seine Wünsche immer hinter den Anforderungen der Kirche zurückgestellt. Über ihn erhält der Leser einen Einblick in den religiösen Alltag von Mormonen, der kontrastreicher zu Tanner’s Alltag nicht sein könnte. Die Bewegung beider Charaktere aufeinander zu war dadurch äußerst spannend. Wirklich schön war es auch, eine intakte Familie in einem Jugendbuch vorzufinden. Eine Familie, die Auseinandersetzungen nicht scheut, in der die Familienmitglieder aber ebenso intensiv miteinander in den Dialog gehen.Das Ende des Buches hielt eine Überraschung bereit, die zur Folge hatte, dass ich noch immer darüber nachdenke, was nun wirklich passiert ist und was vielleicht nur Fiktion in Tanner’s Geschichte ist. Falls ihr „Autoboyography“ auch gelesen habt, würde es mich sehr interessieren, wie ihr die letzten Seiten interpretiert!Fazit„Autoboyography“ von Christina Lauren ist eine berührende Liebesgeschichte, die mich vollkommen überzeugte. Sensibel erlebt man als Leser das flatternde Herzklopfen mit, die Aufregung, Nervosität, das hoffnungsvolle Bangen und das überwältigende Gefühl, einen Menschen in all seinen Facetten zu sehen und zu lieben. Hinzu kommt die Selbstverständlichkeit, mit der Bisexualität thematisiert wird. Denn der Protagonist ist sich seiner Sexualität absolut sicher und steht dazu, ohne sich selbst zu hinterfragen oder von anderen hinterfragt zu werden. Das sollte es viel häufiger geben.
Blogspot: isabellsbooksInstagram: isleepnakedMY THOUGHTS ON ITI LOVED this book.I'd never expected this book to be even more beautiful on the inside than it already is on the outside with its stunning cover. ♥This book started with my favourite quote by Lin Manuel Miranda:And love is love is love is love is love is love is love, cannot be killed or swept aside.And I basically loved everything that came afterwards.I could immediately relate and connect to the protagonist Tanner and loved that he identified as bisexual because bisexuality is still so underrepresented in the media and mostly when a character is attracted to more than one gender, labeling is just completely put aside.There's nothing that I love more in a book than when I can literally feel the tension, the chemistry, the sparkles between two characters. Because then I ship them and I love nothing more than shipping characters and getting excited about them. For me, the fact that two characters have noticeable chemistry with each other is where a romance stands or falls. That's what everything depends on. Because what's more boring than reading about two people falling for each other when you can't feel that at all yourself, when you can't feel any connection between these people and when you're not the least interested in them?Luckily, there was A LOT of everything that I just mentioned I love between Tanner and Sebastian. Sparks flew out of the pages and hit me right in the heart and I was super hyped about it.I loved how supportive Tanner's parents were of him - I could so identify with his mother who went all the way and wore rainbow aprons and pyjamas and generally was quite obsessed with everything rainbow. I also found it very interesting to read about parents for whom gayness isn't the issue at all but who are super supportive of that but who don't want their son to get hurt and so want to protect him from the Mormons.Before this book, I had only a very vague idea of Mormons. I knew that Cece (my favourite booktuber ProblemsOfABooknerd) could relate a lot to the book because she herself grew up in Utah where the book is set and was also surrounded by Mormons. So I knew that the book was very realistic in that aspect. I found it very interesting to learn so much about Mormons and felt quite educated by the book.As I said before, this book reminded me of CMBYN. But not only because I have a similar amount of love for it and enjoyed reading it so much but mostly because Sebastian reminded me of Oliver and Tanner reminded me of Elio. They both seemed to be the more "likable" versions of Oliver and Elio which I liked but which does not mean that I liked them more than Oliver and Elio. The thing that I adore so so much about CMBYN is the fact that Elio isn't a completely likable character but shows a lot of sides of him that provoke the reader and that the reader might disapprove of. But that's what made him so incredibly real and relatable for me.So AUTOBOYOGRAPHY felt a lot like the toned down version of the characters of CMBYN. They were completely likable and didn't really provoke the reader in any way.So because I loved this book so much, reading it felt so sacred to me that I could not be disturbed while doing that. And since I read outside (which is my favourite place to read and where I read the fastest) I got often disturbed by the neighbours. So when a particularly emotional scene was about to begin, I just had to shield myself from the outside world and put in my earphones and listened to the CALL ME BY YOUR NAME soundtrack while reading on. And OH MY GOD. Wow.Listening to that soundtrack while reading this book felt like the absolute epitome of gay goals.The music fitted the story so beautifully and made the whole book even more emotional and deeper and I just loved every bit of it. I mostly prefer books to their movie adaptions because there is just so much more depth in books normally. But movies have music which is this essential tool that books don't have. And by listening to the CMBYN soundtrack while reading AUTOBOYOGRAPHY I gave the book the tool of music and wow, it just blew my mind.I normally don't listen to music while reading - only sometimes to the Harry Potter soundtrack while reading Harry Potter - but this was an otherworldly experience that I will cherish forever.CONCLUSIONI loved this book so much and I am so happy I read it because it fulfilled me and touched me in a way that only my favourite book of this year, CALL ME BY YOUR NAME, has managed to do so far. After I finished CMBYN I so wanted to read another book like it and was frustrated because it felt like a once-in-a-lifetime book experience. But then I read AUTOBOYOGRAPHY and it came so close to that experience and I am so thankful for that. It was such a wonderful, beautiful, emotional and heartwarming and heartbreaking read and this book has a very dear place in my heart now and I am so happy I discovered it.
This book is everything!Christina and Lauren made me cry for hours again.I loved the story of Tanner and Sebastian. I still can't believe that so so many teens and adults have to live a lie, because of so many people who can't accept the fact that they are just like anyone else. What is wrong about being gay or a lesbian or bi or a transgender? NOTHING!Anyone deserves to love and to be loved, no matter what.There should be written far more of those books.
I have laughed and cried (so much) at this book like never before. The story was so well written and thought through. There were so many layers to the story (definitely way more than to the average always easy love story). I would recommend it to everyone, not only for an amazing read but also to open your horizon to problems some of us will luckily never have to face but so many people out there will go through these struggles everyday.
Truly a book I fell in love with. I read it in one day, just couldn't put it down. It's intense and makes you suffer with these two, but also admire them in different ways. A dream book in many ways, will definitely reread.
Ich hab das Buch tatsächlich innerhalb eines Tages durchgelesen, weil ich es nicht aus der Hand legen konnte. Ich liebe die Charaktere und die Geschichte! Es war lustig, traurig, interessant, absolut herzzerreißend und so, so, so, so schön! Ich kann das Buch absolut weiterempfehlen!
